The Oro Valley property for the closing Immaculate Heart High School is up for sale.

The Diocese of Tucson announced last December the closing of the high school. Its last day of operation is May 31.

Immaculate Heart’s preschool-eighth grade program will continue.

The property, consisting of a three-parcel package (625, 425 and 450 E. Magee Road) is listed for more than $18.6 million.

The property is being sold by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in a sale being overseen by Arizona Commercial Properties.

The Arizona Commercial Properties website touts the property as “a unique opportunity for any organization or company looking to expand their presence by moving into a larger school, opening a new training center, medical school, sports facility, seminary, church or headquarters.”

In a statement released by the diocese in December, Bishop Edward Weisenburger said, “I’m deeply sad to see the high school close but respect the decision made by the I.H.M. Community. With three other high schools in the Tucson metro area it is our hope that we can accept those high school students who wish to continue a Catholic education.”

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the high school had about 50 students in the 2017-18 school year (the most recent data available). That year, it employed nearly seven full-time equivalent teaching positions.

Immaculate Heart School started in downtown Tucson in 1930.

By 1961, the high school had relocated to its spot on the northwest side. In 1971, the high school had a name change, to Suffolk Hills Catholic High School, but switched back to Immaculate Heart High School in 1990.
