Last summer, Jeanie Medema, SaddleBrooke Pickleball Association (SPA) member noticed that the potted, live plants decorating the Ed Robson Pickleball Center were dying. As an instructor in ceramics, Jeanie thought the dying plants in the ceramic pots could be replaced. She made the proposal to the SPA Board, and the Board agreed. Jeanie created ceramic and pottery agave and Moroccan mounds plants, by making leaves and stalks one at a time. SPA member Karen Richey, an experienced potter, joined in the project creating pottery saguaro cacti in bloom with bees. Creating each of the ceramic and pottery plants required approximately 12 to 15 hours. The ceramic and pottery plants have now been placed in pots and decorate the pickleball courts.
