A multimillion-dollar campaign launched by an organization partnering with the Pima Animal Care Center is in need of funds to help save more pets.

On Wednesday, Friends of PACC began the "Your Love Saves Lives: Investing in PACC Programs for Today and Tomorrow" campaign, in efforts to raise $5 million for daily operations at the open-admissions shelter, a press release said.

The campaign will fund two full years of programming, including an increase in medical staff and medical supplies.

Nearly 16,000 pets go through the shelter every year and many require services for their conditions when they arrive, the news release said.

PACC has already raised $4.25 million through grants and donations and the organizations are asking the community for help with the remaining $750,000.

Last year, the center saved nearly 90 percent of the pets that arrived at the shelter. The upcoming completion of the larger animal care center will mean more help from the community is needed.

Donations can be sent to the campaign by visiting the Friends of PACC website.
