“You Are Safe With Me” button.

The congregation of Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church engaged in an educational discussion about being better stewards in welcoming all God’s children on Sunday, March 10. The Rev. Dr. Alex Hendrickson, a member of the Board of Directors, Covenant Network of Presbyterians, spent about an hour educating and equipping us in ways to expand efforts to seek equity for all people, especially LGBTQIA+, in church and society. Wearing or displaying the “You Are Safe With Me” button is one way each of us can openly express our hospitality. Our welcome doesn’t end.

Going forward, as we journey through the Easter season, we will host special services at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, including communion; Good Friday will be celebrated at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 29; and Easter Sunday services will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 31, including a virtual hook-up through Zoom. During these services, our choir and musicians will add handbells and a drum to enhance the anticipation of the Easter story.

Beyond March, our hospitality extends to a special showing of the documentary film “Resilience” on Thursday, at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 11 with a Zoom registration link accessible at our website (visit mountainshadowschurch.org/building-resilience/). The film highlights adverse childhood experiences and the consequences felt by individuals and communities. Mountain Shadows is hosting the registration site as part of our effort to increase awareness and to support a member of our congregation that is actively working on community-based solutions here, in the Tucson area. All are invited to watch the hour-long film and to participate in the after-discussion.

Our church doors will be open for the free jazz concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 15. All God’s children are invited to come to Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church and experience welcome in a safe, gun-free environment. Check out our numerous community-based activities if you want to get involved—visit mountainshadowschurch.org.
