When Rotarian Dan Watson transferred from his Rotary Club in South Pasadena, California, he told his new club in SaddleBrooke how his former club built a house for a family in Mexico each year. And they did it in ONE day. He also shared an amazing video, made by his wife, Kathy. This incredible video, set to music, highlights Kathy’s photographic talents as she documented the day this cement slab was transformed into a home for a family in dire need.

After sharing this experience with the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke, members of Dan’s new club got excited. The story of building a house in a day quickly spread. Dan and members of the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke were asked to share this project last fall at the District 5500 Conference of Clubs, held at Casino Del Sol.

This fall, members of the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke will have the opportunity to experience the joy of building a home for a family in dire need. Joining with members of Rotary Clubs in District 5500 (Southern Arizona), these Rotarians will be building a home in one day to present to a Mexican family in need. Can you imagine how that would feel?

While the home is built in a day, it takes longer to travel to and from the site. Participants will be leaving for Chula Vista, California on Friday, October 25, construction will be on the Saturday, October 26 and travel home on the Sunday, October 27. So, there is more time involved in travel to and from Tecate, Mexico than there is in building the house.

The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke is still looking for Rotarians, as well as other clubs, to join with them in this project. Does this incredible opportunity sound amazing to you? If you or your home club would be interested in this project, please contact Dan Watson at danielbwatson@aol.com.

What is Rotary? Rotary is made up of your friends and neighbors who have fun working together to make the world a better place. Rotary is the world’s largest volunteer organization and is found in more countries than the Red Cross, Starbucks, or McDonald’s. Together with our friends, we are working to make a difference and change lives.

The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke is an award-winning club. We meet Thursdays at 11 a.m. for lunch at the Ranch House at SaddleBrooke Ranch. Next, we meet in the ballroom followed by an educational program or speaker. Rotary is open to those who live and work in SaddleBrooke, SaddleBrooke Ranch, and the surrounding communities. For more information, check out saddlebrooke rotary.com or contact Diane Demeroutis, Membership Chair, at diane@demeroutis.net.
