Downtown hotel planned for Flagstaff

Plans are in the works to construct a four-story hotel in downtown Flagstaff.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports the 82,500-sqaure-foot Marriott Residence Inn would have 109 units and be constructed near Historic Route 66 and Humphreys Street.

Flagstaff Planning Development Manager Elaine Averitt says a site plan is being reviewed and the hotel also needs Historic Preservation Commission approval.

Approval would put the Marriott facility among the only buildings over two stories tall in downtown Flagstaff. The four-story, 50-room Monte Vista opened in 1927.

Search on for oil, gas in Mohave County

A group of seismic surveyors has begun their search for oil and gas in Mohave County.

The Kingman Daily Miner reports that the group from Nodal Seismic, a California-based geophysical firm, has received permits to conduct operations in the Golden Valley area through August.

Nodal Seismic has brought in four vibrating trucks to measure and record seismic data along county roads.

Drilling isnโ€™t a common practice in Mohave County. If oil or gas were to be found in Golden Valley, County supervisor Jean Bishop says it would be a good boost to the economy.
