February began our first major tournament: The Presidents’ Cup. (Which, of course, is played during the Presidents’ Day period). This tournament is a Net Match Play event that takes place over four days, following a qualifying round. This year, 36 players signed up for the qualifying round, which was then pared down to 32 Match Play qualifiers. It was also divided into four flights: Washington Bracket, Adams Bracket, Lincoln Bracket and the Roosevelt Bracket.

Winners of individual matches, runners up in each flight and players who make the quarterfinals, semifinals and—of course—the finals, all receive prizes. Many of the matches went into extra hole play.

And here are the results, (trumpets please): Match Winners: Sue Dischner, Maggie Falconer, BJ Murray, Ann Stonecipher, Geri Sandilands, Gail Plimpton, Deb Sherman and Elaine Tews.

Bracket Winners: Washington Bracket: Takeyo Eakin; Adams Bracket: Judy Briney; Lincoln Bracket: Marie Kahng; Roosevelt Bracket: Yvonne LeCornu.

Fourth place: Carol Sturman; third place: Lynn Wenzel; second place: Jan Bukes; and the grand winner: Lisa Graff

Keeping with the spirit of making sure there are fun events for all, we always have a “Follow the Field” game each Tuesday even while the tournaments are going on. This gives everyone who, for whatever reason, can’t participate in the tournament, a chance to play and to be a weekly winner.

SaddleBrooke Women’s Golf Association (SBWGA-18) hosted the Kachina Women’s Golf Association on Monday, March 4. Eighty-four players, including 32 players from HOA-1 and seven Mountain View/Preserve players, as well as 18 players from SaddleBrooke Ranch participated in a Two Net Best Ball format. It was a beautiful day, and our food service provided box lunches for all. Following play, we all gathered at the Tennis Center patio for snacks and drinks. Bonnie Stutzman was the organizer of this event, and she did an amazing job of managing all of the logistical details.

At our monthly luncheon/meeting, we held a ’sponsor fair’ on Tuesday, March 5. Fifteen of our sponsors enjoyed dining with our members and having the opportunity to elaborate on their services. So many of our members use our sponsors for the various services they offer. Attending were: Coyote Golf Carts — Heath Porter, Andy’s Irrigation — Anna Carrere, Travel Shoppe — Peggy Bakos, Long Realty — Kathy Minx, First Inspection — Tyler & Travis Morgan, Morris Trust — Michael Halliday, G & K Entryways — Gregg Voytovich, Long Realty — Helen Graham, Beauty Inside and Out — Dede VanBooven, Desert Sunset Painting — Kyle Forte, Lexus of Tucson — Fernando Rodriguez, Desert Life Pharmacy — Kaylin Tasko, Oro Valley Eye Care — Dr. Robert Mitchell, Rockin’ Wellness, Mobile Massage — Susan Pennington, Westerner Products — Keith Oehme & Randy Dekker.

We started another of our major tournaments: The Club Championship beginning on Tuesday, March 12. This Gross tournament is divided into three flights: The Championship Flight, (15 Players). The Senior Flight (14 Players) and the Legends Flight (nine players). All players play each of the three nine-hole courses. Play will continue until Monday, March 19, when, of course, we will celebrate with a party at the Activities Center.
