A Tucson man is set to be sentenced in July for the killing of a 6-year-old boy in September 2019, authorities say.

Pablo Martinez, Jr., 36, admitted this week that he held the boy’s face under a running faucet in a bathtub for five to ten minutes while giving him a bath, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona said in a news release.

The boy suffered β€œliquid thermal burns” due to inhaling the hot water, the release said.

Pablo Martinez, Jr., 36, was charged with second degree murder and pleaded guilty this week. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison along with a maximum $250,000 fine, the release said.

Martinez is set to be sentenced July 5 before U.S. District Judge Scott H. Rash.

This investigation was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pascua Yaqui Police Department, the release said.
