My favorite time of year has finally arrived. While I wasn’t happy with the 100+ degree days throughout September, I still managed to think FALL. It was time to bring out those glorious colors of orange, rust, mellow green and mustard gold.

The nicest part of autumn décor is that it is good for three months, so, whatever you purchase, it can stay for longer than three to four weeks. And now is the best time to shop for these items as they are probably on big discount prices to make way for that December Holiday…

While some may think it is a pain to change out your home décor seasonally, I find it to be a fun and happy time. I love putting away some of the standard May through August items and replacing them with autumn leaves, pumpkins, candles and silk flower arrangements to give a feeling of warmth and comfort to our living spaces.

You can also enhance your space with pillows, table runners, new placemats, etc. Don’t be afraid to introduce these warm colors into your palette. When it comes to this time of year, anything goes…

Of course, you will need to add some Halloween decorations in October, but the good news is you don’t need as much because you already have pumpkins in your fall theme.

Don’t know where to begin? Start with the entry way by adding a touch of autumn leaves and silk flowers or a display of pumpkins and perhaps a straw bale to place them on. Next, move into your kitchen area. Moderation is key, so you still have all your working and eating spaces neat and accessible. A simple table decoration and perhaps a candle or two in fall colors will do nicely.

If you have a large family/gathering room, I say go for it… just don’t overdo. With the rich colors of fall, you can do simple decorations that add warmth but don’t overtake the space. Be creative by making your own table arrangements. A few leaves, a variety of small pumpkins and gourds, a soft lit candle and you are good to go.

Don’t forget the pillows… it’s always fun to add different textures and colors with them and you can easily store them away under a bed until next season.

Your guest bath is the perfect spot for new hand towels, a fall candle and perhaps something fun to contain your hand soap and cream.

It’s fall, after all... embrace it and enjoy all that it brings. Hopefully, cooler weather, so you can spend time on your patio. Add some touches of color there as well with silk mum plants (unless of course you have a green thumb), rust color candles in pretty lanterns and a nice throw for your chair or sofa to remind you that summer is finally over! Enjoy the beautiful sunsets that reflect off the mountains while you enjoy that glass of wine or cocktail with friends, family and four-paw children… life does not get any better!
