If you read last month’s article, you may recall my challenge to tackle your pantry, fridge and storage areas to check outdated items and purge. A friend of mine got so enthusiastic, she not only did the cabinets, fridge and freezer; she moved on to the guest room closet and realized she had suitcases she no longer needed or used.

She got to thinking about an article she’d read where foster children usually arrive at their new home with their worldly goods tucked into a black plastic bag. That began my research into local foster organizations she could contact and hopefully donate the suitcases which would include some toiletries and personal items for a new start… what an amazing idea!

This is just one of many, and I am so happy to have played a small part in hoping to make a child feel their worth…

When I worked at SaddleBrooke Community Outreach (SBCO), there was a large donation area for toiletries, personal grooming items and makeup that were donated to Teens on their Own. It was a very heartwarming experience, and it put good use to those hotel soaps, shampoos and conditioners we collect.

Living in SaddleBrooke goes way beyond the comradery, golf, tennis, pickleball and every other amenity we have, it reaches into our hearts and gives us an amazing opportunity to share such simple things in life like a new pair of gently worn shoes, clothing we don’t use, household items that are taking up space but serve no purpose, etc. For that, I can only say thank you to those who donate so that others may enjoy what you no longer need or want.

Another great amenity here is the ability to work with so many talented people who are design savvy and know how to create a new transformation in your home. Many have worked here for a long time and know most of the SaddleBrooke models inside and out.

If you are thinking about doing a renovation, be it large or small, please research the contractor you are thinking of working with. Ask for referrals from previous clients. Most are happy to provide you with a name and phone number so you can see their work firsthand and learn from their client what they liked or didn’t like when going through the work cycle.

I’ve been here 27 years, and believe me, you get to know the good, the bad and the ugly, especially when you are helping a client. I have been fortunate to know so many qualified workers and proud to refer them to my friends and clients.

If you are thinking about a remodel, be sure and purchase a ticket to the SBCO annual Home Tour where you can get great ideas and see what can be done with some of our original models. It will be held with six great homes to tour on Saturday, March 23. Tickets go on sale at the SBCO website on Monday, February 26, or you can purchase at the SBCO office in person on Monday, March 4.

And for those who may be thinking about adopting a four-paw fur baby, SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue Network (SBPRN) will be hosting a Pet Adoption Event from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at HOA-1 on Thursday, April 18. At this event, you can meet and greet some of the wonderful Rescue Groups and the pets who are looking for a forever home in SaddleBrooke. A fun day for sure!!
