Balmy spring weather, blooms of many colors and a quirky piece of sculpture make the Rillito River Park Trail near Campbell Avenue an inviting destination for a walk, run or bike ride.

Walkers and cyclists pass palo verde trees in brilliant bloom and wildflowers in hues of yellow, purple and red-orange.

Many trail users stop to snap photos of a metal sculpture by Stephen Fairfield called the “Batty Biker Family.” The sculpture depicts a family of whimsical bats on a bicycle.

Its location, at the Campbell Avenue bridge over the Rillito, is a reminder that the bridge is a roosting site for real-life bats.
