Whether you have two or four-legged family members who shy away from fireworks and or other loud noises, there is holistic help available. Veterans suffering with PTSD, children with sensory issues, babies and two- and four-legged animals may have negative reactions to fireworks, thunder storms and other loud noises. For approximately 7,000 years, essential oils have been used to support calming in people and animals.

The very first medicine was essential oils. The earliest usage can be traced back to ancient civilizations since 5000 BC. Essential oils were so valued that they were presented to baby Jesus by the three Wisemen, and buried with mummies in ancient tombs. True essential oils have no expiration date and those uncovered in ancient tombs have been tested as still viable after thousands of years.

As essential oils have regained popularity in the United States in recent years, a number of new companies have joined the essential oil bandwagon. Few of these companies test their products for authenticity, pesticides, chemical usage, constituents or heavy metals. When purchasing essential oils, it’s important to read the labels or call the company and ask about the testing they do.

One of the easiest ways to calm pets and people is with essential oils in a diffuser. Start with four to five drops of Lavender or two to three drops of Peace and Calming or Stress Away. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Peace and Calming was diffused in the animal shelters. With pets, it is recommended that you diffuse in an area where a pet can comfortably distance them self from the diffuser. Animals have a very powerful sense of smell.

Another way to use essential oils is topically. Babies and very small pets would benefit by being held. Place a couple drops of Lavender or a single drop of Peace and Calming or Stress Away on the person holding the baby or pet. Gently bring baby’s or pet’s nose to the location of the essential oil.

With larger pets and people, topically use essential oils on the body. For medium and large dogs, horses and similar animals, put a drop of a calming essential oil on your finger tips, then gently massage the tips of the ears and pet the animal with the remaining oils. Some larger animals and horses may require more essential oils. Add more oils to your hands and continue to pet. People might enjoy the oils on the back of the neck or wrists.

Essential oils impact the brain in two seconds and the blood stream in just over 20 seconds. So, you should see a positive immediate response in people or pets.
