This month, we will learn what a general Orthopedic Surgeon does that rewards the surgeon, as well as the patient.
As a general orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Ward states that the most rewarding part of his job is helping patients transition from being in pain or injured to a state of improved health and less pain through operative and non-operative treatment. Dr. Ward’s treatment philosophy is to not treat the X-ray or MRI, but rather to use them as tools to treat the whole person. Each person is unique, and he feels that it is important to listen to them carefully to understand their symptoms and needs, in order to tailor their treatment specifically to them.
Dr. Ward’s surgical area of expertise includes sports medicine (shoulder, knee and ankle arthroscopy) total joint arthroplasty, (shoulder, anterior hip, knee and revision surgery).
Our speaker started his career as an orderly and then progressed to becoming a scrub tech and then eventually a registered nurse. Working in various jobs in the medical field has helped him gain an appreciation of the critical work done by the support staff every day and also helps him work with them more efficiently.
Dr. Ward is Board Certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He did his Orthopedic residency at Millcreek Community Hospital, Erie, PA. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, at Touro University, Henderson, NV. Dr. Ward states that in his free time he is an avid golfer and also enjoys hiking, biking and traveling with his wife and two daughters.
