SaddleBrooke Health Night Out presents Advances in Breast Cancer Care at the DesertView Performing Arts Center on Monday, December 8. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m and the presentation will start promptly at 7 p.m.
The presentation, Advances in Breast Cancer Care, by Dr. Jad M. Abdelsattar will explain diagnostic advances and new technologies being used during breast cancer surgery, targeted treatments and precision oncology that have greatly improved cancer outcomes.
Dr. Abdelsattar will highlight two areas:
De-escalation of surgery — This new focus addresses current research where removal of lymph nodes may not be necessary depending on certain factors about the type of cancer and age;
Oncoplastic Surgery
- — This is a combination of cancer removal with plastic surgery techniques to remove tumors while preserving or reconstructing the breast’s appearance. Techniques are tailored to tumor size, location and patient preferences. They include:
- Lumpectomy with tissue rearrangement
- Breast reduction
- Flap reconstruction.
