As you know, Waste Management provides service to SaddleBrooke HOA-1 and HOA-2. Trash pickup is Tuesday and recycling pickup is on Friday (unless there is a delay due to holidays).

During each pickup day, there are four Waste Management trucks roaming around our community, traveling a combined 317 miles! All the trucks run on compressed, natural gas.

Here are some questions often posed to members of the SaddleBrooke Public Affairs Commission:

How much waste and recycling materials are collected? Of course, in winter when the seasonal residents are here, there is a significant increase (the figures below are in tons based on an average per week):

Season Trash Recycle

  • Summer — 42.4 13.8
  • Winter — 61.8 18.0

Where do the recycling materials go? All the trucks head to a Waste Management transfer station, where other recycled material is gathered and shipped to a processing facility called ReCommunity, located in Tucson Items are sorted by manual and mechanical methods into individual commodities, then they’re compacted and baled. These bales are sold to manufacturers to be made into new consumer products.

What should be recycled? Glass bottles and jars. Plastic shaped like bottles, jugs, tubs and jars. Metal food and beverage cans. Paper (newspaper, junk mail, magazines, plain wrapping paper) and cardboard. Items that should NOT be recycled are plastic bags, foam inserts, take-out containers and utensils. When in doubt... throw it out!
