The Oracle Schools Foundation Spring Fling had 67 silent auction items, 26 fixed price events, and nine fabulous live auction items this year raising over $75,000 to provide two Kindergarten Prep Programs in the Oracle School District. One of the events was the South African Safari Night on Wednesday, April 23, when 15 vicarious adventurers joined Prudy and Bob Bowers (assisted by Deb Cunningham and Terri Tindal) in their SaddleBrooke “Safari Tent” for delicious homemade foods unique to South Africa.

Bob and Prudy traveled through South Africa for 77 days and took a cooking class in the Bo Kaap district of Capetown. The SaddleBrooke Safari adventure featured appetizers, including homemade sausage called Boerswors, then a buffet of delicious entrees like “Bunny Chow”, Bobotie, Potjiekos, Curried Shrimp and salads with Amarula liquor Malva. Pudding was the dessert, accompanied by Pinotage and Chardonnay wines from the area.

After the meal, Bob gave a presentation of their experiences with video, slides and music. Each guest took home a special box of South African style cookies and Rooibos tea to enjoy later.
