Well, SaddleBrooke and Ranch Senior Softball fans, here it is November 7 which is deadline day for the Notes. So, time to break out the old Smith-Corona and tap a few keys.
RANCHERS, WELCOME!
That’s what I said! Yeah, all you Ranchers, in case you didn’t know, are welcome to come on down to the SaddleBrooke softball field, check it all out and, if you’re feeling like strapping on the cleats again, sign up.
Veterans Day Tournament
On Saturday, November 9 the SaddleBrooke Senior Softball Association (SSSA) put on a softball three game tournament of softball dramedy. There was, AS USUAL, plenty of softball, food, drinks, tunes and neighborly chatter. Sponsored by Beyond Clean and Andy’s Irrigation, with the dogs and brats grilled up by longtime grillmaster, Doug Wagers of Window Wizards. There were three rip-roaring games, beginning at 9 a.m. with the Competitive League. In the lead-off game, SaddleBrooke Remodeling just eked out a win over Rancheros Market, 18 to 17. The in the 11 a.m. Community/Coyote game, Shifren Physical Therapy just outlasted Beyond Clean 21 to 20. Finally, in the last of the triple header, in Rec, Andy’s Irrigation put the hurt on Splendido 24 to 22. Next up????? ST. PATTY’S DAY next March! Stay tuned!

Fall League Action
In the meantime… The fall league is back in full-swing, having started up Monday, October 7. The softballers will be heading into the second week of December before breaking for three weeks till January.
On Mondays, in Recreational, Debra Miller-State Farm has slipped from a 2-1 and dropped two in a row and is now 2-3 while the Cleere Law offices have roared back from their 1-2 start to lead the league now at 3-2. YOWSER! In Community, Kristy McInnis-Coldwell Banker has now dropped three in a row to fall to 3-4. Unfortunately, Desert Life Pharmacy has gone from a 0-4 start to go 1-1 and is now 1-5 and in the cellar. The beneficiary has been Pride Mechanical, now well-ensconced at the top of the heap at 6-1.
On Tuesdays, in Community, Golf Cars of AZ continues their dominance at 5-1, while Absolutely Art is hanging in there at 4-3. But Healthy Skin Dermatology continues getting burned at 1-6. In Competitive, Brittni Guttman-Allstate has a tight 3-2 lead over Catalina Family Dental at 2-3. A tough league here, folks. It’ll probably go down to the wire for Tuesday Competitive.
Wednesday Community brings us another tight race, with Barron Electric out to a 3-2 record and Canine & Co. close on their heels at 2-3. Those dogs just ain’t gonna give up. Over in Sidewinder and Old Pueblo Trash Haulers have hauled out to a 4-1 start, trashing Nara Brown-Long Realty, which has struggled to 1-4.
Thursdays are Coyote days and the desert canines are locked in another tight race, with Dominick’s Italian slightly ahead at 3-2 over Concierge Heating and Cooling at 2-3.
Finally, over to Fridays where Competitive has a battle brewing between Big Bear Garage Doors and SaddleBrooke Pet Rescue-Bill Wescoe, now both 4-3. Big Bear rocketed out of the gate to an initial 3-0 start, so, you can see where they gone since. Commode-city. The Community church at SaddleBrooke is lagging a 2-4 and has some serious work to do to catch up. No “tightness” in Friday Community. Hughes Credit Union has a commanding 4-1 over Janine Denning-Coldwell Banker Real Estate at the opposite end at 1-4.
Rattlers Tournament Action
Not much info at deadline time, I’m afraid, fans. The Rattlers are a group of SaddleBrooke softballers that head outta town once in awhile for some “outside action.” Well, they had a “downtown” tournament this past weekend and all I could get out of team honcho, Debbie Sequin, was “we lost in the championship game.” Ouch! Must have been a tough one, because Skipper Debbie usually isn’t short on “expressing her “point-of-view”.” She did give out that Brad West (“Fast Brad” as he’s known around the diamond (at least on those days when Brad Jones (“Slow Brad”) is also playing) made a couple of “humungo-spectacular catches in the outfield. So, no championship trophy, but getting to the championship game is still something to hoot about. Congrats there, Rattlers.
Anyhoo, you can always come down to the field and check the softball action Monday through Friday. Or you can surf us at saddlebrookesoftball.com. Softball action every weekday, practices twice a week, and a league for all skill levels. So, if you were thinking about dusting off the cleats, oiling up the glove, and getting the bat out of storage, c’mon down and give us a look. We’re always looking for new players. And just so you “SaddleBrooke Ranchers” know, the Association welcomes your participation. Check it out!
Rule Query of the Month
A “batter” has successfully made it to base and is now a “runner”. She/He is now hit by “batted ball” and is out/not out under what circumstances when:
- Is off the base (1) in “fair” territory; (2) in “foul” territory?? See “Dead Ball provisions.”
- Is still on the base when hit?
Physics Brain Teaser
Facts - A golf ball, a softball, a bowling ball, and Mitch are dropped from a height of exactly 12-feet (the legal upper limit for a pitched softball) dropping straight down onto homeplate.
Question 1: Which object hits the ground first?
Question 2: At what rate of speed is each object traveling?
Question 3: Which object says “Ouch?”
