The new year is here and Verde Sputters is off to a good start. Forty-Three Sputters including two new members and three guests start the new year with 53 hole-in-ones and a lowest score of 37! Earning a score of 37 were Heather Griffin, Marilyn Palatas, Hazel Roper, Sue Ryan and Vicki Wermager; earning a score of 39 were Ann Grover and Wendy Bellamy. Congratulations to those who dropped the ball into that tiny cup with only one stroke! Ann Grover did it four times while Jan Deschamp and Sue Ryan did it three times.
There were 50 members who attended the luncheon, farewell to the outgoing Board and welcome to the new Board. Helen Bellacqua, the outgoing President unfortunately was ill and could not attend but we wish to thank her for her leadership for the past two years. Our new Board members are Presidents: Connie Kotke and Pam Young; Vice Presidents Donna McPherson, Karen Simmons, Secretary, Laura Berkley, Karen Lott, and Treasurer Laura Miller, Sandy Ripley. Welcome aboard. It can be a wild ride so hold onto your hats for the next two years.
At this luncheon also, the 2024 annual awards were presented to the following: Low Score: Laura Berkley with 33; Average Low Score: Hazel Roper with 38.31; Most Holes in One: Hazel Roper with 52; Most Improved: Karen Taylor with -2.52; And, the prestigious Spirit Award goes to: Carolyn McLean. The free lunch was won by Reba Johnson. Happy January Birthday goes to Carolyn McLean, Donna McPherson, Linda Watkins, and Sue Ryan. And last but not least were three money-hole winners: Mary Halverson, Pam Young and guest, Jane Damschen.
Our White Book has seen its last days. So, now, members, please look for the “Little Black Book” which replaces it and in which you can sign up to volunteer for setting the course, signing in the members on putting day, and for the various committees.
Lydia O’Connor was set up next to the check in desk for the luncheon and passing out the Verde Sputters 2025 membership book. If you didn’t attend and receive your book, call her at (507) 421-5640. Speaking of checking in, this was Sue Leasure’s last day for checking in members attending the luncheon. Going forward, one will need to email Karen Simmons at lutonlassie@hotmail.com to let her know you will be attending the luncheon.
Upcoming events are the Sputters/Ranchettes on Monday, January 20. There is not any regular putting on that day and you can sign up for the luncheon even if you don’t do the event. On Monday, February 3, Fun/Crazy Putting Day is scheduled. Organizing this event are Lana Steinert and Vicki Wermager. Please let one of these energetic ladies know if you can help.
