World Faith Symbols

Each year, since 2010, the United Nations has recognized the first week of February as World Interfaith Harmony Week. Pioneering work of the “A Common Word Initiative” back in 2007 formed the basis for observing World Interfaith Harmony Week. The “A Common Word Initiative” called for Muslim and Christian leaders to engage in dialog based on two fundamental tenets of both religions: Love of God and Love of the Neighbor. During the first week of February, organizations and individuals from around the world host events to help neighbors of all faiths get to know each other and build a foundation for more peaceful communities. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) actively supports and participates in harmony initiatives around the world and encourages local congregations to seek ways to engage neighbors of all faiths.

At Mountain Shadows Presbyterian Church in Catalina, Arizona, we are actively engaged with Interfaith Community Services (ICS), which is housed in Oro Valley. ICS has just over 120 local faith organizations signed up as Faith Community Partners. The combined effort of the Faith Community Partners supports the vast resources available to individuals in need of assistance. For Mountain Shadows Church, we actively support fundraising and food donation efforts each Spring and Summer for ICS (e.g., “Lotsa Pasta,” Empty Bowls” and “Peanut Butter Party”).

Beyond ICS, our Mission Ministry Team actively engages with local organizations working on social justice for all, and in providing resources to individuals in need. If you are looking for a church with a mission-driven ministry that focuses on the love of God and love of neighbor, visit us. Our tagline is “Centered in Christ, Caring for Community.” Come to our worship service that begins each Sunday at 10 a.m. If you can’t come in-person, join us virtually at any time for our recorded services on our YouTube channel.
