COOKING UP SOMETHING GOOD

Going to a cookie exchange this holiday season? Entertaining friends and relatives? Find inspiration with the new Cookbook Collection at the DesertView Library! A large range of cookbooks from the classics to international cuisines can be found on the shelving devoted to this new collection.

Check out holiday entertaining ideas in “Christmas with Southern Living,” both the 2025 and 2024 idea books for food and decor. More can be found in “Gourmet’s Weekends” and “An Occasion to Gather: Milwaukee Entertains,” one of the great cookbooks put out by the Junior League.

We have cookbooks by the country’s most famous chefs from Thomas Keller to Michael Symon to Alton Brown along with more regional cooking from Tucson’s Janos Wilder to the Twin Cities’ Lucia Watson and Santa Fe’s “Cafe Pasqual’s.”

Local cuisine is spotlighted in “Dining with the Desert Museum,” “A Desert Feast : Celebrating Tucson's Culinary Heritage,” and “Taste of Tucson: Sonoran-style Recipes Inspired By the Rich Culture of Southern Arizona” among others from our Southwest collection.

Representing classic cookbooks are “The Silver Palate Cookbook,” Ina Garten’s “Barefoot in Paris,” and, not to be missed, Julia Child’s “The Way To Cook.”

Plant-based cooking is showcased in the beautiful book “The Forest Feast Mediterranean: Simple Vegetarian Recipes Inspired By My Travels” as well as many other books in the collection focused on vegetarian recipes. “Cool Beans” and “Fresh From the Vegetarian Slow Cooker” are two of those.

Special dietary needs are also included. A sampling is “Gluten Free Every Day Cookbook,” “The Low-FODMAP Diet for Beginners,” and “Eating Well Through Cancer.” Books on the air fryer and the Instant Pot are also here.

Desserts can be found in “Cookies and Biscotti” and “Luscious Lemon Desserts” and appetizers in “Oriental Appetizers & Light Meals” and “Martha Stewart’s Hors d’Oeuvres” among many others.

International cooking spans the globe from Japan and China to India and the Czech Republic and Russia. We have recipes from Ikaria to Utah.

And don’t forget your pets need to eat too! Check out books devoted to making fresh pet food.

New books are added every week! Come check them out in the library located next to the DesertView Theater. Take some time to browse and look at some gorgeous books with stunning photographs of delicious dishes.

All the books in this fun new collection are donations. Each one is cataloged and given a Dewey Decimal number to group similar subjects together. If you wish to donate, only those in pristine condition will be considered. Therefore, no stains, highlighting, dog eared pages, etc. and in a format suitable for the library (no skinny pamphlets, spiral bindings, etc.) Once donated, the books become the property of the library and cannot be returned.

Please consider becoming a member of The Friends of SaddleBrooke Libraries (FSL) who provide the funds to purchase the new books, DVDs and audiobooks for your SaddleBrooke Community Libraries. If you are not a member of FSL, learn more at their website: http://www.sbfsl.org.
